Pit Stop!

Out of a sudden, the car started trembling. It was as if the long whining engine belt gave way and causing it to react strangely. I halt by the road shoulder for the first time, calling back to dad getting assurance that it's still ok to drive on.

I started moving again, this time there is no road shoulder on the side. It's common when there is an entrance to the expressway. The car is now vibrating like there is an earthquake. I had no choice but to move the vehicle slowly until i see another road shoulder. The next 20-30meters of driving is the scariest of all my years. It is as though your life is coming to an end. At this point, i don't really know what is wrong. My mind was thinking about crazy things like explosion or a crash from behind by some stupid driver.

Well, maybe too much movie does affect your intellectual thinking. Finally managed to halt the car for the 2nd time got off to inspect. Damn.. The front right tyre is busted, i don't even know why.

How's my first experience of changing tyre on a busy expressway(PIE, Eunos)? Not bad. My grandfather was a tech so i guess i've naturally inherited the "fix it" mentality. I was able to change the tyre without prior experience of any kind. The bad part? I have this WRX driving extremely close to me and sounding his horn loud when it is just next to me. I do hope he'll get that karma falling back on him someday! And EMAS towing crew arrive exactly when i've done all the work. But i'm still thankful that someone came and pay a visit. Made me feel that i might need help and i'm noticed.

Oh damn, i've just broke my practice of "video blog".
I hope old school gif does the effect well enough :)

So recently things really happened. I went Melaka, back to reservist, got called for a job interview and got some performing stuff coming. It's quite happening to me. So if you are interested in the read, let's start :)

Melaka
I recently went Melaka, Malaysia with some friends. It's a free and easy tour which explores the other side of Melaka. Pretty much unlike what you will expect in a normal guided tour. We went to a club with an awesome band, ate so much that i have digestion problem the next few days, visited the traditional nyonya house. I never gave clubbing a green light simply because i hate the smoke and the "super sub woofy contra bass" coming out from the techno music.. However my friend knows that i am very into band music and insisted that i should see their house band. I was blown away. The house band is amazing and i actually feel quite ashamed of our local "talents". Still like my standard quote, if you want someone to support you than you got to have the substance. Anyway apart from the band, i can hardly find any pretty/sexy ladies in there(although there are quite a handful of ladies :P ).

So yup food is pretty much the next big thing we did in Melaka. Though it's a big state but the city is actually smaller than Singapore. We pretty much travels in repeative circles during the 2 days there. Foods are special over there. There are so much unique food that we've not seen in Singapore and i give my best vote to Satay Celup! Satay Celup is much like a steamboat idea but instead of getting hot soup, you get boiling satay sauce! And much like a normal satay, you will get all sorts of foods on bamboo skewers. The next thing you need to do is to dip it into the boiling satay sauce and wait for it to cook. It's really tasty but the hygiene level is normally not up to many to take it. You'll probably vomit or get diarrhea because the satay sauce is shared after rounds and rounds of customers and the raw satays are kept in a poorly refrigerated area.

Reservist
It's like an annual thing which most man in Singapore will have to do it after serving their national service. There are two types of reservist, high key and low key. During a high key, you will do trainings like outfield, rifle shootings and what ever that is related to a real operation. Low key is where you'll do admin stuff, do some equipment learning and anything that will just keep you in camp for the next few days. So normally people will get low key near the end of their reservist period.. however this reservist i did was a low key. It's really strange to get low key at such young age.. Imagine i have to go outfield and dig a big hole at the age of 30+? omg..

I still remember during my last reservist i did not see many friends driving in camp but this time round there are lots of CARS. The other thing i noticed is the number of friends got married! These 2 are indeed some shocking and pressurizing things for me. A car is something that i do dream of but i never expect fellow friends to achieve it so fast! It makes me so jealous of their result in life.. The next thing is marriage.. I've to say it's still not in me to do it.. i am probably someone that is just so afraid of such commitment. Shall not elaborate on that. I always feel like asking them "why do you marry you wife?". Sometimes it makes me feel like i am still a kid and i don't understand a lot of things.

Performing
After i've quit my own band, it's pretty much a low time for me. Many kept asking me(even till last fri) if i've regretted quitting my own band. I just feel that i've to move on, nothing much. So nevertheless, i stil have quite some friends who are out there to care about me :D They are offering me small scale performance which is good! I've a wedding gig, a cafe slot and probably (hopefully) a guitarist position in a pub with my friend! These are probably different route from where and what i use to do but still i just can't leave the stage.

I'm also giving private guitar lessons as well as teaching in Singapore Polytechnic Guitarist Club. So if you wanna have some guitar lessons with me or got a friend who wants some coaching, let me know ;)

往事只能回味~

Johnny, MingHui, WenHao, Kristy, Andy, Me你瞧，Johnny天生就有个会搞笑得脸！梁导应该联络他！

今天好开心。我和一些老朋友聚会！虽然我们只是吃个晚餐，接着到Starbucks喝咖啡，我的脸可是一直保持着抽筋的状态！往事总是甜美的！这班朋友是我在中四毕业后的第一份全职工（Euro's Cafe)结交的，当时的感情是非常要好！放工长一起打个桌球或聊聊天等等。

从还没点菜到喝完咖啡，一段一段的往事真让我哭笑不的！Johnny的搞笑，Andy 和 Minghui 的暧昧，Wenhao 的成熟, Kristy的满脸幸福。说实在的，我好感谢我认识了他们。因为我的性格不是很容易接受，而他们聚会从不忘了我。感动~ ：D

比起上次的聚会，我觉得我们的话题已开始转变。文豪和Kristy都已婚，Kristy也大了肚子！MingHui 和他男友也在申请住屋。 Jenny虽然没来，可也听说她已定婚。突然好想唱S.H.E. 的 [不想长大]。

对我而言，人生就像是一本你不知道有多少页的书。你可以拿一些模式然后将你人生的故事填满。或你也可以当个冒险家，以你认为是对的方式去填写。后果？没有人可以知道他的未来，可是每个人都可以留下一个故事。我也羡慕我的朋友结婚生子，成家立业。可我却不想按着模式填满我的故事。我有个梦，我有个精彩的故事要填写！朋友们不要怕，我还是会很理智的活着 :) 至于我还有多少机会完成我的梦，我想我会给自己最后一个机会。如果是爱我音乐的，请在我准备好时给我你最大的支持！

***This is a lengthy post***
Many a times we do speak ill of others and more often at their back. I can't deny i personally does do that but recently i feel it all have to stop. It's irking me to a point that it's no longer just a personal point of view.

I normally do encounter these people but i'll just take it with a pinch of salt. However it haunts me when people close to me behaves in such ill manner. It's not right to assume someone else having a bad character and you are almighty.

Today another incident happened and that drives me to do this blog.

I was at my regular print shop, printing posters for my upcoming events and i bumped into this crude bunch of nafa student. Well actually the first 2 who came in are alright, they dress decent and behaves humble. The next 2 of the group is horrible. They caught my attention by their weird sense of fashion and unmannerly loud conversation.

I somehow heard their conversation which contains lines like..
"she don't look as good as in person, her photos are like madly photoshopped!"
"she can't even sing.."

I got curious because of all the harsh critics that is music based and decides to walk over and peep. I saw their concept proposal for a video shoot of a friend of mine. I was shocked by the words they used and how they were speaking ill of my friend. So i want to make sure i am correct, i tapped one of the guy's shoulder and ask in a curious look "what is this about? a school project?" The guy who was speaking loudly suddenly chickened and speak in a gentlemen's voice explaining the video project they are taking. Suddenly he seems like a very nice guy, it's scary.

Because i was printing my own stuff, i'll normally put on my nerd outfit with my black goggles like specs to prevent embarrassment etc. It worked! As the shop assistant was assembling my poster onto a kapaline board, the crude bunch looked over and starts their ritual.

"Woah look at this! Machiam F4"
"Haha.. wtf.. where the hell is bukit panjang plaza!"
"oh these bunch of people play guitar.."
"looks like some wannabe~"

And they go on and on.. but at this time, one of their friend probably identified me already but he did not stop(or probably did not have the chance to stop) his friend from all the wizardry chants! All he did is look at me and give that innocent smile, well i smile back of course.

The bunch didn't stop, they went on spotting mistakes from other people's print like a certain project was typed Merloin instead of Merlion. It got them repeating it for at least 15mins. It's amazing.

So anyway, my purpose of this particular blog is not to just whine about others behind their back but i do hope they will some how do a search of that "F4" poster's bandname and find this blog.Please do not start swearing about how lousy,ugly and wannabe these musicians are. You really do not know the process we are going through. It's no harm saying about us behind our back but once caught, it just reflects very much on yourself. Do not judge us so quickly like a book's cover. If you ever think about it, giving us a chance will simply give yourself a chance.

Next, i hope those people who are close to me and are behaving crudely will start to chance for the better. This society may be cunning and evil in many ways but being humble is not pretencious. It is simply a better way that people will want to work with you and help you out.

Aftermath of Live Gig

I actually wanted to blog this in mandarin but considering most of my friends reads English better, here it is in english.

People often ask me, is it tough to run a band? Is it worth the effort? What do you want to achieve from this?To be honest, there are tones of questions going through my mind, even as i'm typing this.

To form a band and have jamming, go for gigs and have fun is never difficult. That would be very much like people forming groups to participate in activities they enjoy in common. However, to do a band that would eventually be a career is not easy, in fact far worse than going for a job interview and get a crappy job. It is close, if not tougher, to how athletics trains for The Olympic. Why tougher? athletics get paid for training but not a rock band.

So as i turn my parent's hardworked home sweet home into a warehouse for band equipments, i really felt the pressure, stress and that tones of endless work. From sourcing of locations, equipments, helpers etc to planning the whole event and eventually making it work in front of the audience. I understand that the term "indie band" is not just simply a tagline.

At this stage, you probably cannot feel my stress. You won't understand how much i wish to skip this part and enter the sweet dream. It's really much like a captain with his sailors out alone in the big gigantic ocean trying to find the promised land.

The turn out of our first show is pretty much as i was expecting. Nothing fantastic, nobody waiting for the show to start etc. I do hope the next Sat would be a better one.

Like they say, when you are unlucky, bad things just keeps coming. Our date on our big backdrop is printed wrongly and we have to remove it just before the show starts. We drove a car and a lorry to the venue and both got fined. All these piled up our emotions when it's time for dinner.

So after 2 tiring shows, it's not our usual pack our stuff and go. This time round it's pack our stuff(S) and go. Meaning to say, our amps, drums, backdrop, PA and everything! Should have took a picture of our equipments. All these done with only nic(our soundman), sandy and patricia, yan zhan(who did MC for us),V's parents and the 5 of us. It really worn us out badly.

We are really serious about our music and we do hope to gain your support in the future.

Guys, if you are reading this, i'm sorry that i've decided to give up.
Giving up not just a band but the hopes and dreams that is within me all along.
Call me anything if it makes you happier, i really can't take it anymore.

I've decided to leave.

Financial crisis hits really hard till i can hardly eat without help from parents.
I've dedicated my time with a price of living off my savings. It's not easy and i've been enduring this for close to a year.
I hope i can change my mind and convert myself to a normal civilian. I admire friends who are already so well to do. Ability to own all luxuries human can buy.

Despite putting in so much effort in the band and our album, we are still being put off by mean remarks and not being able to receive the support we thought we've worked hard enough for.

I'll truly miss all the great time we have on stage, in the recording studio, during our practice sessions and our suppers! Take care guys..

我最近收到这则E-Mail。起初我一眼认定这都是Photoshop的结果。心想就算他们是有多好胜也没可能那么没人性吧。。

可是刚刚我就在NatGeo Channel看见这“China Acrobats”我才恍然大悟！原来我所看见的照片都是真的阿！（你可以叫我山龟了。。）

当我在看那些小孩因为想成为一个出色的杂技演员，或为了添家用，而受这些痛与折磨。我领悟了。我并没有努力！你可能觉得这些小孩是没得选。这些孩子在刚进去的6个月后是可以选择是否要不要继续。这已比你服兵役好多了！

曾经有个朋友对我说过一番话：“If you want something, you will go all out to get it and not talk about it”。我以为我已经在证明我真是对我的前途“拼命”，可是 NatGeo 把我打醒了。

I'm troubled again..

The last time i quit my full time job so that i can pursue in my band better, it was such tough decision but it did benefit the band a lot. After a while, you do realize cash is running out and you've got to go get a job somewhere in order to survive. So i took up guitar instructor job at verve music.

Here comes the problem. The days i work there are weekends morning till early noon but they pushed my time limit to late noon. That's fine. Then now as the band progress further, i realized i need back the weekend again.

As this school is totally strict and not flexible with schedule, i am already having the intention to quit. To the school, so long as you are the instructor, you are to put the school as top priority in your life. Even if they only assign you 1hr of lesson per week, you cannot afford to jeopardize their 1hr.

I'm pretty sure they don't have the practice of firing instructor off their list as they do have limited guitar teachers. I'm not that evil to do any harm to my students too. I'm just troubled..

I need more and more time but at the same time i can't earn anything for my basic expenses! The journey to music is so mind blogging..

Anyway here's a video of 讨闹派RazzlePlay @ NTU Campus Impresario as guest performer. Another sad thing there, i played a very very wrong mistake at the 2nd song..you should be able to spot it as it is very obvious. Worse thing is, we're playing infront of some very important audience. Music producers and etc..

A simple praise!

Today, while i was having duck rice at Ang Mo Kio hawker centre, i praised the hawker.

It just comes to me when i saw the duck rice. It was served with meat! Most duck rice you see will serve you duck that is thin and bony. Right? The chili often comes salty and the rice is never right.

This stall is so different. Everything was perfect! Including the price and service! $3 and i got a duck rice that's equivalent to what you'll get in high class restaurant! I am even thinking of the Hong Kong restaurant i went before.

So right after i finished my meal, i went over to the hawker and said "你们的鸭饭很好吃". It made me really happy that i've told him. I can also see the smile on his face that he feels very proud and surprised for that.

Sometimes, it's not all about making yourself happy. Sharing the happiness with another is priceless. Let's spread this contagious virus and make this world a happier place :)

Now i owe you guys some pictures and info. Rest assured, it's worth every penny!

Movie Review: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Now just before i start telling you about that movie i've watched, i've something to let you think about our society and our selfish life.

Incident 1
Just yesterday, i was queuing up for chicken rice dinner. I saw the hawker drop the whole chicken onto the floor stained with dirts from boots, rubbish and what have they. Their reaction was to put the chicken aside and started to shake their head and talk in soft voices. So just when i thought these are people who understands life and not money, i was wrong. It took me quite a while to reach my turn and those infront of me who saw the incident have all left. The horrific moment came when the hawkers took the chicken and wash it with tap water, dip it in oil and hung it right back on the display.

Incident 2
So i started having my dinner and something started annoying me. There is a rubbish bin near our seat and something in the cigarette compartment started burning all other cigarettes remains inside. It produced a wicked fume and it's so choking i can't enjoy my meal. This is not the first time i encounter a "burning rubbish bin".

So the story sets back in 1920 New Orleans, along Mississippi River. Back in the day where Robert Johnson is the current John Mayer. It talks about this strange man that was born the night when World War 1 ended and the Americans were celebrating their victory.

A normal human will start it's life young and die old. That wasn't the case for Benjamin Button. He started his life as a 80years old baby and die as an infant. It's only when your life is going in the reverse cycle, then you'll be able to understand what life is all about.

Prior watching this movie, i had a friend who quoted me this line which goes something like this
"When i'm ready to go, i don't want to be worrying about the could've should've would've."

Like said in the movie, we all come with nothing and leave with nothing but only our story. "You can curse swear and do everything, but when it's time, you just have to let go."

So yes, i guess you've figured out this movie has nothing more to tell you other then life. Life is just magical and i strongly encourage almost everyone to watch this. Irregardless of what race, religion and language you are, this is about the real truth of life. We come and we go. We have the power to choose how we want to live our life and how to benefit the others with our doings.

This movie also featured great film magic. Watch how Brad Pitt can magically transform from an old man in a small and weak body to an adult, to teenage and finally back to a baby. It's just extraordinary.

So why did i say almost anyone?
1) It's a close to 3hours show in real native American slang. If you can't understand a modern American film, this is not for you. If you are one that can't sit for long, miss this and wait for dvd.
2) It contains war, sexual, smoking and coarse language. That's why it's rated PG-13.

I guess the last great movie i've watch was actually "A Beautiful Mind" and "Moulin Rouge". I've watched 赤壁 but somehow the brutal mindless war in the Chinese is just not my cup of tea so i did not continue with part 2. Also, a good movie do not need part 2. Not unless you are spiderman and such where the main point is the heroic act and special effects.

I'll give this movie a full mark :)

It's always the same thing happening to me.. I really wish i have a job somehow.

Here's the scenario. A friend of mine is selling his Marshall cab and it happens to be the one that i like alot at $900.This one.
The problem is i am broke and have been out of job for a long long time. And so with that financial situation, the right move is not to get it. But.. it's my birthday soon and i was hoping to get it for myself. Besides, the cab that i am using currently is on loan from another friend whom he is getting his cab back very soon.

So why can't i just play on my fender amp? The reason is because that amp is more or less for my rhythm guitarist to use and if there are any promotional gigs, we'll need it.

Argh.. Should i spend on this? I feeling really bad as instead of getting something nice for my girl on valentine's day, i'm thinking of something to make MYSELF happy. Totally selfish.

I recently pass my Ippt and got silver but no money. Why? I failed the ippt on the first day and got it on the 2nd day.. damn.. My score for my first attemp was full 5pts for all station except a 2pts for Standing Broad Jump. If only i have pass my SBJ on the first day, i would have some money to get something nice for valentines day... ARGH! GAS IS KILLING ME!!

讨闹派 RazzlePlay Album Launch

So it's finally over! Over a year of hardwork finally paid off. Thanks to all that came and supported as well as all that helped/sponsored us for this to come true! It's impossible without any one of the group.

So the whole thing for the day actually started 9.30am! I had to fetch dear Simin with all her equipments and then Vics. Next we went to collect microphones we rented for the stage usage before heading all the way down to SP. Then, we arrived at SP Guitarist club house and managed to pack the stuff fast enough to spare us for a nice lunch at foodcourt 2.

The busy part started around 1.45pm when we starts to move the equipments into the auditorium and setting it up. Follow up next is the sound check and finally the big show.

The concert started with a big bang where SP Guitarist's very own pop band came and did a nice opening for us. They are so good that the crowd actually cheered and were right set on the party mood. So we're up next.

We did our notorius 隐形翅膀 and followed by a new song 再一次. Problems surfaced right away. The drumset kept moving to the front as Vics was playing 隐形翅膀! Then next up, the power for Sean's bass amp seems to have intermitence and causing us unable to start 再一次 right away as per planned. Soon after, my cable starts to get intermitence too! It became really bad that i can't really move myself on stage. So thankfully after this 2 song, DJ 江坚文 from radio 1003 came up and save us by doing some real unplanned MC! It gave me the time to ran to back stage for a new cable and Sean the time to fix his bass amp and as well as Vics's drum issue to be solved. Suddenly i realized this will get even disasterous if 坚文 didn't came and help us! Thanks alot 坚文~!

So we carry on with our song list and it was ok. Next up is the video documentary of the making of our album 讨闹派. Somehow the soundman missed the right level of the video and it was played back really loud. So loud that the speaking part could not be heard properly. To make things worse, the instrument amplifiers were all blocking the subtitles. I feel very bad that i can't allow the audience to actually see the video properly and yet have to bare that loud video for a good 10mins.

While playing the video, we are supposed to be changing our clothes for set2(acoustic set) but we are totally engrossed with how horrible we played etc. It's only until the last 5mins of the video did we realized we have to change and get ready for our acoustic set! So panickly we changed and went back to the stage once again.

Acoustic set was performed better then our live band set 1. Why? We're all sitting down and relaxing. (the songs are easier too :D ). But when you though all hiccups are gone, no.. Sean's bass amp remains unsettled and he totally missed out playing for the first song! Well at least you won't know until i tell you! :)

So right after the acoustic set, we're supposed to change our clothes again for set 3 and this is where the biggest hiccup arrives. Our timing is 15mins earlier then what we've planned. The next program is supposed to be our guest singer, Yet but he isn't at the back stage! Technically, he is not late but it totally made us really panicky! 坚文 rescued us once again. He started to do this QnA session and gave us some time for the ladies to change before we do a hasty cover while waiting for our guest singer. If you ask me, it's crazy! Running a concert is like a moving train, you can't just stop it.

Finally Yet arrived and did his songs. We then get back on stage to do our final set, set 3. By this time, our vocal Siling can no longer sing. Why? She was down with flu the day before and doctor have to give her steroids to speed up her recovery rate. And in case you didn't know, i was down with slight fever the day before and i guess it made me sweat crazily for set1.

We managed to pull through the whole concert. It's a good show especially with so many hiccups but i personally feel it can be a lot better. At least i hope the audience that came that night enjoyed. 讨闹派 is definitely promising all to grow stronger and to make everyone proud!

Something is wrong with me!

Recently i'm terrible with appointments,dates and time! I don't know what's wrong with me but things are happening as if i am a terrible man! Here's the list

-I was late for my first guitar lesson at Verve music
-I mistaken a Sat class for Sun class. I even wrote on my note Sunday instead of Saturday somehow!
-I remembered my IPPT on the wrong date and cancelled my potential guitar lesson!

Omg! It's driving me crazy!

Never did i expect doing flyer distribution can be so difficult. It wasn't like this when i was doing part time job back during secondary school days! To make the situation worse, the flyer carries my face! I've loads of people turning their head back after glancing on the flyer they've taken from me. haha! It's amusing!

More to go! I really hope i can spread the news of my band like wild fire. It's not easy to start this fire but i've to try hard. I don't really bother if anyone around me looking things negatively and never really willing to offer any help. I believe that hardwork does get it's deserved reward. I hope my sincerity in getting people to know my band will help me to achieve my dream better!

Side track a little, my idol Paul Gilbert got his new signature pedal!! This is a must have for me! Being broke and in debt, i feel really tempted for this new baby! Anyone know of any bank that have fat and sleepy security please tell me!
However, Paul originally uses a A/DA flanger which was fried during tour by some smart alex soundman.. and there were rumours that the A/DA will reissue that flanger. If both were to be released, that will give all PG's fan a big time headache. A/DA is classic but PG actually modded it to sound weird. Ibanez AF2 is a rip off of the A/DA flanger but there is supposingly no need for further mods to get that crazy swirl effect. Currently Ibanez AF2 is rumoured to go below USD$200, that is affordable if it works wonder. Though sound and functionality is important,I really hope the A/DA will come up with a nice reissue as i don't quite like the look of the Ibanez AF2.

Music Industry

I guess I'm at the edge of becoming a lunatic. Though I've been fighting my way for my band to make it in this industry, it's driving me really nuts. Lots of factors kept coming back to me. Monetary problems,Team effort, Jealousy, Standard of production, Efficiency of work, Tight schedule. The best part? I've unknowingly been out of job for half a year and have been living on instant noodles to the point i can make a living by cooking really nice instant noodles. Alrite, maybe they all taste the same..

Earlier this evening, i listened to my friend's radio show and he hinted on air on certain things. Apparently he went for some concert that featured 1990s singers. He claimed that those are the real musician as back then there are no such thing as "auto-tune" software for vocalist. Comparing to the modern day musicians, they are indeed the better lot. Although i kinda disagree because i know even in tape recording we can stretch the tapes to get it back in tune or how live performance can have an live auto-tune running in discreet etc but that's not the point. His words made me understands why i am not getting much of support. If you are good, people will beg you to perform for them but if you are just a guy that can do great studio magic then people will look down on you. I'm left wondering what can i do to produce a great album for my band now.

The Djs then also commented that composer/producer tends to have a need for quiescence and that they are often a loner. That struck me right away. Still, i'm wondering do i need to be a loner? Somehow i just can't get along with people.

Nevertheless, if you find the album that i'm producing for my band good or maybe the graphic or anything that i've done, please do share my work to your friends! And if you find it average or bad, hit it right on me because that is the only way i can be better!

It's another year!

I noticed this year, the weather seems to create a little "snowing" on Singapore island. Why so? I got caught in the rain 3 times! And the rain is not just a typical heavy or light shower but rather very very fine raindrops and they are rather dense. It gives me an impression of snowing. And when you see them from the sky, they looks like they were "floating" down from the sky. Well of course they didn't last very long before the actual rain hits in. Sweet nuff!

Well since i'm a guitar fanatic, here's a nice little trick from Paul Gilbert that even a kid will be able to pull it off :)

Endangered Species?

Firstly,i'm not a big follower of Alex Skolnick.
Secondly,i'm not a big fan of the Ibanez S series.
But i'm a big fan of Ibanez Rg Guitars :D

Anyway, i simply love this picture and have to blog it. I'm feeling very much the same on my own situation. In this current world, the music i write always face lots of challenge from the public. Why? It's more of a pop world rather then a rock world. "Keep on rocking in the free world" ?? No.. it's now rephrased as "Keep on POPPING in the free world".

So i'm feeling one day i might either revolutionize my followers to believe back into metal, rock or i may be categories into the endangered category. I don't have long big hair like how my heroes used to have them. They don't do that anymore. I guess it's probably the Ozone causing the lost of big hair.

Anyway.. KEEP ON ROCKING IN THE FREE WORLD!

And yes! Finally it's mine. Though i'm not certain how long this amp will stay with me but it does arrive just at the right time.

Just a few days back, i was seriously scratching my head. The Fender HRD was totally giving me sizzle nightmares. We wasted at least 3-4hours of recording time just to nab my desired tone. At the end of the day, it still sounds really bad. From naked ears, the Fender amp is exact to what i hear on Paul Gilbert - Silence followed by a defeaning roar cd. Through the expensive mic(s) and high tech preamps and recording devices, it sounded like a badly adjusted multi-effects that's plug directly into the pc to record. How bad you can imagine.

My influences all have some very raw, open and rocking tones. Eddie Van Halen, Paul Gilbert, Deep Purple, Acdc and such. These guitar heros never fail to impress me with some sick parts where it's just guitar chords and they sounds so musical alone! Acdc-Back in Black, Paul Gilbert-Norwegian Cowbell, Deep Purple - Smoke on water, Van Halen - You really got me.. There are just so much more! Now the clue here is being musical sounding alone.

So i went back very sad that night. My mind kept surfacing that ugly tone. Note, it's not Fender Amp's fault at all. We are recording Simin's part with that and it sounds very sweet. I told myself, if i were to spend so much to do this album and so much effort were taken to make this band a reality. I can't just compromise on the el'cheapo tone. Honestly, our band's single was horrible and i promised that this time round we will never compromise on quality. I started hunting..

The hunt did not take me long. It seems that luck is on RazzlePlay's side! That exactly night a post on a forum surfaced. It only states "selling marshall vintage modern". No picture, dead image links and only a mobile phone number. My first reaction was to grab my phone and sms that guy! I thought, geez! Any version of that amp will make the album sounds 10times better than what it is now!

Sean was helpful enough to accompany(by driving me)to that guy's place in Jurong West for a testing session. The amp did not turn me on right away. It sounded really normal for some reason and it's rather fuzzy. It's not the smooth, open up and raw Paul Gilbert's tone i love so much. The guy explained that we are not cranking up the amp and it will probably work if we can crank up the amp. I left the place in lots of thoughts. I am not ready to waste alot of money yet didn't get the results i want.

As Sean was driving me to the Mrt station, he came up with a brilliant idea. Rent that amp from him for a day and see if we can get the results we want in the studio. If it is the result, i'll buy. If not, i'll just take it i rented a wrong amp for a day. That was a great idea. So i gave the guy a call and the even greater thing happened. He told me to just bring the amp to the studio for a test! For free!

So the next day(today) Sean drove me to pick up the amp. Somehow i was not feeling nice to just take the amp from him and not paying any rental or such. It'll be too evil if he met the wrong guy who would just grab the amp and never be contactable after that! So i insisted on a $100 down payment or such to his wife and brought the amp to the studio.

Yes, the result is pleasant! Do be ready to buy our album when it's released! I can't wait for this to be ready for you guys! Like said, i rather i'll eat maggie mee and have my hairs dropping then giving you guys a bad quality cd. Especially when you purchase my band's album with your hard earned money and you trusted us so much! Thanks for the support! :)

What's my feeling? i am damn excited that RazzlePlay is hitting the studio again! Only this time round much more professional and quality assured! I can't wait to get all beat up with listening my songs over and over through the monitors.

We've been practicing real hard for quite a while and i hope it'll pay off nicely! Tonight is my first session(and it'll carry on till mid dec!) There are already signs of finger fatigue and badly worn off skin which hurts when i touch the strings gently but I hope my fingers will be able to take it and giving the audience, fans and supporters the best i can do!

I am stress???

Recently i am suffering from hair loss problem. Since when? Recent. It is so bad that it's making me feeling all awkward and weird. I was left with no choice but to see a doctor as i fear it might be some signs for some hidden disease inside me.

So i finally visited the doctor. She stand next to me and started to look through my scalp by brushing her hands on my hair and looking with naked eyes. After less then 2mins, she went over to the basin and washes her hands.

"Nothing wrong, no major illness"

I felt totally uncomfortable with her diagnosis and started to tell her more about my body condition etc, hoping it would ring a bell of something. Nope. She insisted that i don't have any major illness in my body. According to her school of taught, the human's hair also sleeps. But unlike a human who will wake after 1 night of rest, the hair sleeps for 3month every time. So during this period, the hair will easily fall off even with a simple brushing. This is caused by stress, physical tiredness and a few more i can't remember. But stress?

She insist that it is because of stress that puts my hair to "sleep". I really started wondering where does this amount of stress comes from? I was terribly stressed and worn out during the days i work in Maestro Guitars but i did not suffer any hair lost.. Stress now?

To make things worse. I went back to peninsular, the place where i work before, to grab some guitar parts and saw an old friend. His hair is super long! Seen those 80s hair metal band? Yup that's his length! How long it took him? 6mth. During this 6mth i only had 1 hair cut in between! There is no way his hair can grow so fast! It makes me wonder is it because of my hair problem that i am able to managed a shorter hair length easily.

These hair don't fall after a certain length. I've even see my own eyebrow's hair falling onto my food before. Am i going to be come a Jordan Rudess? If any of you reading knows anything about hair loss problem please contact me! My parents does not have hair loss problem but my grandpa does have sparse hair problem. But his hair problem only surface at his later age. Save me!!!

Music journey have took me a long way! Unknowingly i'm on the edge of no return!

Still remember the days where i listen obsessively to only 1 band. Dir En Grey. Till date, there's a lot of their influence in my playing style, song writing and etc. But looking back, it seems like a cult to listen to them! I was so much into them that anything else doesn't matter. It's on my MDplayer any day! yes.. MD Player - Mini Disc Player.

Haha. Look! That's me! PVC tight pants, exploded hair, guitar at the side, legs open wide.. Those were the days where when you are on stage, it's chaos. I still remember what happened during this picture. It was actually a band competition organized by NUS and it was my first show and first competition! God knows what made me did that.The first thing i went up on stage, the MC called me over for on stage interview. Typical. Instead of asking me real question, i was made a fool for my hair. He went.. "Hey your hair reminds me of... when you're happy and you know you clap your hair!". Made things worse? The audience joined the fun!

The show was alright. We were playing Iron Maiden - Trooper (since we were only allowed to play english songs somehow). Not too long later, my solo part came.. I walked "stylo-milo" to the front of the stage unknowing that the cables are not long enough. I unplugged my guitar cable and got no sound at all! The crew at the side kept using hand sign to tell me that my cable is out and did not come up to help. Since it's a competition and i was taught to act as if nothing happened during concert band, i went on pretending that i am doing a great solo with all my huge facial expression and etc! Boo!! That ended up making me a huge joke among the jrock scene in Singapore.

Scream was the band name and it consist of my brother Vics on drum(who later joined a few other bands including genesix, lucify and now RazzlePlay), Nuh on bass(who is now the guitarist in Ethereal that took part in SuperBand competition), Jojo on vocal (totally lost contact), Mingyou on keyboard(who is now a uni student and i guess nothing much related to music).

Times really flies! It was just like yesterday when that happened.

Modern Day Funeral Band in Singapore

I bet you've not noticed. Those old uncles that used to play for funeral are gone! The next generation have emerged!

I still remember when i was much younger, bands for funeral always comes in a combination of 1 trumpet, 1 trombone, 1 saxaphone, a bunch of snare and a couple of bass drum. They sounds horrible and neither in tune nor in time. Still people pay huge money for their "effort". I was a trombonist during my secondary school days and i remembered starring at one of those funeral band's trombonist! Because i can't stand him faking his way through!

Guess time changed. Probably superband created some awareness that Singaporeans can play music in the unexpected way? This is infact the second funeral band that i've heard playing in such standard. My brother was commenting " It sounded like Hyde - X Japan's funeral! ".

I guess Singapore is finally moving into the music/arts world(though we still need loads of entertainment area).

我可是认真的！

就今天早上，我到了AMK Hub 去看[武侠梁祝]。本以为这可是个全新的体验，没想到却竟然是个错误!

戏还没开始,我身后的"大姐们"就拼命的开零食.我一转身回头望,我还以为我到了East Coast Park! 简直就像野餐!

然后戏终于开始了, 可这时背后又传来了一阵一阵的声音..
"哇! 吴尊好帅 leh!!" "哇! 他们的衣服很美 hor?"

我差点认不住想转回身骂个狗血淋头,却突然发觉我被很多他们的同类包围着!

戏演到悲惨的部分时,后方有声音了!
"aiyo!!不可以!!会死的!!" "吴尊真可怜啊..." "后面!!"

有时还会有...
"我跟你讲,等一下他们就....." "neh! 有没有?我都说过了"

本来,我是个很容易落泪的人.可大姐们"帮"了我不让泪流! 真是感谢!
所以,如你需要这种的"帮忙",请你早上到城市外的戏院享受吧! 哈哈..

Anyway,如果你和我一样是喜爱梁祝的, [武侠梁祝] 是值得看的哦!

刚开始一点也想不到他们会如何把原装的梁祝混近这新的武侠版. 可你越看就越入戏. 当吴尊被邪恶的杀手追杀时,心理的却有种莫名的悲哀!

He is the man! A rock bassist that have played with Alan Lee Roth, Paul Gilbert, Steve Vai and many more. Born early enough to see Jimi Hendrix play. Been together on stage with Rush, Van Halens and more! He is indeed a time machine. From where music is impossible in the states till billions of new bands appearing everywhere!

His clinic was much like i expected, comical and lots of stories. This guy is old enough as a grandpa but still touring around the world. What do you expect? Stories. Here's a few good ones that i remembered.

"i threw the banana off the stage and expect not to see it again. Right when we started singing, it flew right back and smashed on *****'s face right infront of my eyes!"

"extreme metal is interesting to me.. but we always call those vocalist Cookie Monsters! *he went on to imitate them* "

"oh you guy's definitely heard of the story when Paul got his hair stucked in the drill..."

"..the next moment, something hit right at my head! I kept playing and look to the crew at the side of the stage.
Billy: Am i bleeding??
Crew talking to each other: Should we tell him?!? "

".. well yeah i do know of a few great bassist that uses more then 4 strings..

Well these are definitely the funnier stories i remember. There are also alot of technique talking, morale boosting and not forgetting playing it infront of us. Amazing. Now it's time to save up for a good old attitude bass! I don't like that new bb bass they are promoting for their 40yrs anni..

讨闹派 RazzlePlay Rocks!!

I realized i did not blog much about my band RazzlePlay. I've gotta say this, I LOVE THIS BAND 1001%

This band went through quite some ups and down. Smiles and Unhappiness. We're still considered a rather young band but we're a hardworking bunch of music lovers. In just 1 year we've wrote songs, been to gigs with important vip, performed for charity, went on radio1003's program, indie gigs and now we even became the opening band for radio1003's 7th Party. I just love this band..

Playing together as a band is never easy. People have their own thinking and emotions. It's easy to say that the more sticks you bundle together the harder you can break it. When it comes to the real ground? Being a solo artist is way easier then a band. We often argue, quarrel and it can go really bad but this is how we can learn each other and to prevent it happening the next time round. We're growing healthily :D

This is a last min band that i made, with some sewing help from my mum on the sewing machine. It comprises of our very first logo. The pure instinct of this band and the passionate dream we want to achieve. We've created many more logos after this first logo but eventually we fall back to the very first logo. I guess it simply brings us back to when we first start it and we want to portray that we are still as what we are 1 year ago, only more matured :D

Recently i did another paint job for guitar. This piece i did, was very very different from what i normally do. I normally make guitar looks very posh and glam but this time i did the exact reverse! Check it out!

Now if you are wondering what is this guitar, this is the John Mayer Black Strat Replica. This is only for people with acquired taste. It's not everybody's meat, or so I've learn.

This again is not for anybody! Look at the amount of complicated all white keys! It's crazy to play this thing. This keyboard layout was patented in 1882 by Hungarian mathematician/musician Paul von Janko. The theory is that it's much easier to play chord shapes are the same in every key, and the closer-spaced keys make it possible to play faster. But, like decimal time, and the Dvorak computer keyboard, the world of Janko is divided between a tiny group of passionate believers and an enormous mass of people who've never really given it a second thought.

The Thunder Is Over...

Yes finally the ThunderFunk ended with a classic standing ovation but with a little party dance from the audience! They ended the song with Stanley Clarke's classic Schooldays.

From the start to the end, the 3 virtuoso did not stop to amaze their audience.
Stanley Clarke's lead bass style to crazy upright playing.
Marcus Miller's funky grooves and great playing on the alto sax and bass clarinet.
Victor Wooten's ultra fast pop slaps and a crazy display of loop pedal usage for solo.
Honestly, if you missed this show i think it's quite a shame. They probably will not come anytime soon even if there is a plan.

The security was very strict on photo taking that night.But hey because the audience don't give a damn, i managed to take a few alright shots to share here :) here we go!

It's the huge "life size" wall-e replica that disney made for all the interactive promotions. Pretty neat but yes they are pretty much the bigger versions of the smaller buddies. Limited actions and sound.

Tour of Misia Discotheque Asia

Yes and i just went for the concert of one of Asia's best vocalist! It's truly amazing.

I can't describe how this petite little lady can sing such amazing octaves of strong and mesmerizing vocals. From dolphin whistling to true high note and steady falsettos! It's no wonder to see a full seating even it seems that she is not popular in Singapore.

Despite unable to sing her lyric, i enjoyed it very much. I've never clap and wave and dance in a concert so happily for quite a while. The last concert i went, shall not mention that artist, did disappoint me a bit. It's really how the professionalism can bring the audience alive! Now this is even true and proven because i don't really understand their language!

Oh one thing i've got to say, i didn't realize Singapore have so much Japanese! Almost 70% of the hall is filled with Japanese. Ah.. makes me feel like learning that language again! Now i can only catch small words and short phrases. The whole night i felt like i'm in Japan and the feeling is great! I remember going to the Japanese Cultural Festivals and they are as entertaining.

This Wall-E is going to be my brand new ATD (Amp Top Display) and will join me in any gigs i go! I especially love the way this robot dance! It's just too cool to miss! Wall-E stands for Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class.If you've watched the movie, there is also Wall-C which i guess it stands for Cyber-Class and they are way huge compared to Wall-E. It's 3.22am. I am just back from the mixing of our new recorded song. It's titled [If I Could Dream] and this track will be collected in the upcoming Maestro Guitar's Artist Compilation CD and also the anticipated 讨闹派 RazzlePlay's first full length album that's due next year.

This particular song features about happiness, forgetting reality and most importantly love. It's cheesy to say that but yes this is almost exactly what we are trying to convey in this song. Happiness. :)

Due to copyrights and stuff like that.. i am currently only able to upload a 44secs low quality track( i could hit 1min but it'll make the demo sounds funny). This makes a good ringtone don't you think so? :D

Vics Cajón

Finally i'm posting on this. Can't wait to see the end result huh? Me can't wait to hear it being recorded tomorrow! Here's some pictures :D

This is actually my first attempt in building a cajón. Lots of fun but also lots of time and effort! Sweating was like bathing when doing this. Not forgetting the wood dust that will fly and get stuck onto you!

Cajón is pronounce as "Kay-horn" or some say "Car-horn" and not "Ker-john" or "Car-john"

The Vics logo is something i came up with, he himself have not seen it at this point of time.. i do hope he'll like it.. I also sprayed some arrows and wrote "this way up" to give it an industrial look :)

Tomorrow, RazzlePlay will be doing an acoustic recording for Maestro Guitars with recording genius Keith Chia and his friend. It'll be included into a free audio CD containing tracks of all their artist(which RazzlePlay is new in their line! :) ) and they will be giving out free upon a purchase of their guitar. No, it's not because of tomorrow's gig that i can't sleep.
No, it's not because i'm not tired that i can't sleep.
No, it's not because of some silliness that i can't sleep.

Today i went back to my formal workplace to grab some strings. After being a loyal servant under that company for 2 years, i thought i would still mean something to them. I was completely wrong. Though it's just a pack of guitar string i'm referring here but i'm utterly disappointed with the discount i was given. 10%... yes 10%. Seems alot? nope. Not when you know his cost price. Even the current part timer gets a way better price then what i was given. Well in a way you could say i am wrong to demand for a big discount in the first place. Oh well, guess relationships in a work environment really ends fast after you resign. I'm so sad when i left the place, it was not like that before.

Next, my diy signal swooper became a killer. It murdered my favourite modulation pedal.. MXR Eddie Van Halen Phase 90. Dead! I'm very sad when i realized that. Until now, when ever i look @ my pedalboard, i feel really sad. Though you may again say this is just some effects and can be easily purchased or repaired. I just don't see it that way. My mind is now blogging with all the sadness about the death of my favourite modulation pedal.. :(

John Mayer Live in Los Angeles ( Where the light is )

I know i am supposed to post something on the cajon i built for vics but.. yeah.. haha.. kinda incomplete for now. The front tapa isn't working out nicely as i didnt get the size right. So, i'll owe that for now and review to you the JM's latest DVD.

Where the light is
John Mayer Live in Los Angeles

This DVD features John Mayer's Where the light is concert but not entirely just like any other guitar concert video. It's more, japanese in a way. The classy frontcover tells it all that this is not just about the concert, it reads "a film by danny clinch".

The video starts with John speaking about his ideas and stuff on Mulholland drive, opposite Hollywood. It's a great view and especially classy when you play a mixture of blues and jazz on that hill top with the big Hollywood signboard away in a distance and small moving vehicles down the hill. Of coz, here you'll see his famous "two-rock" amps. These are really really expensive amps that is suppose to be the main element for John's tone. What's Badcat, Fender and other stuff when Two-Rock is in house! hehe.

So the concert consist of 3 parts. The acoustic set, trio and the full band.

In the acoustic set, you'll see how amazing John is on the acoustic guitar. Largely due to his berklee teacher, Tomo Fujita, his playing style is definitely another class from acoustic master Tommy Emmanuel. I can honestly tell you, the stuff he is doing requires alot of thinking and the technique is a mixture of funk and folk!

In the trio set, John showcased his ability to rock like the late Jimmi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan. The playing style here changed from the funky acoustic to deep heavy blues stuff with emotions loaded. If you are generally a pop listener, you might just find this part abit too heavy to digest. But hey, if you've never watched a SRV or Jimmi Hendrix video then this is good to start your repetoir with.

Lastly, the full band set. This is by far my favourite section actually. I'm like you, lazy to digest complicated stuff at times. haha. The full band gives this perfect John Mayer sound you hear in the album Continuum. The nord's hammond sound, the slow reverbed drumset, the deep smooth bass plus John's voice. It all match up perfect.

I remember when i watch JM during his "Any Given Thursday" era, his expression is simply unacceptable and sometimes does leaves me question on why is this guy famous. I might be shallow back then but i'm pretty sure he himself don't quite like what he saw in the videos. His way of expressing changed alot in this DVD, for the better.

This DVD, he also speaks alot on paparazzi. I believe he is one of the top news creator in the states now. But according to a certain guitar magazine, he isn't quite as known in UK. So anyway, you'll see his hatred for paparazzi, there is even a song on it. haha.

Overall i rate this video 4/5 :)

-the quality of the video overall
-the techniques John presented

I Dislike :
-the cheap way of packaging(hard paper cover instead of plastic jewel case)
-the booklet with little images, i'm an image craze

打乐团的往往都是在追一个梦. 我们也不例外...

Finally we have a new song on the way. As per planned, we hope to release a full album by next year. Thus songs after songs are being written and selected for use. Yes, finally we're on our way working hard on a new song. This song features about risk and overcoming it. It's a face paced song and definitely a different genre from what you commonly hear on radio. I can't wait for it to be completed :D

Writing a song is not easy. There are endless amount of songs out there and a whole bunch of favorites in each and everyone of our heart. So the trick here is to write something that is truthful, sincere and portrays what you really wish to convey and let it be hear naturally. There are quite a bit of song writing techniques formulated but i never choose to really stick to any of those formulas. If i were to follow a certain musical theory or technique just to write that particular kind of song, i'm just a follower.

You'll probably be wondering why am i always sleeping really late.. Inspirations comes to me deep in the night. Like yesterday, i just kept rolling on the bed and unable to fall asleep. Feeling so weird and suddenly my brain sang me a song. This is common and resulted in me reluctant to sleep earlier in case a new song arrives..

Alrite, hope to let you guys hear the new song soon! :D

the messiest place on earth!

If you followed from my previous friendster's blog, you'll know that i am quite a diy man on guitar. Painting, inlaying.. and repairing.. Recently my mum allocated 1 of the room in my house for all my diy craze. Look what happened..

Haha.. I'm sure for now i'm messier then a luthier i know named KC! Anyway it'll need round 2-4 to get this place into working conditions. Nevertheless, it did not stop me from working on my next guitar.

May i present to you the Pinstripe Telecaster! This idea was stolen from Brian Setzer. I doubt i am adventurous enough to paint on a Gretsch so i used a Tele instead.

As you can see, it's very similar to what Brian Setzer has but just that it's in Tele form and there is a lacking of the devil and angel sticker. There aint enough space on the Tele to do that :D Also, i've cutted a transparent pickguard to go along with this. This allows the graphic to be shown nicely while still giving the same protection needed :)

Hopefully i can complete this fast and get it up on sale soon! Weather is a killer..

New Amplifier!

Ladies and gentlemen! Welcome the Fender Hot Rod Deville 410 in the house!

Gosh i didn't believe it. Here i am, finally, with a fantastic amp in my room! It's always a dream to use proper equipment but i never have enough money for anything. Nevertheless, after so many years, i am now a proud owner of a stage amplifier.

I've yet explore the full power of this baby but i'm pretty sure it'll produce results that i'll love. Fender actually have 3 different model for the Hot Rod series namely Blues Jr, Deluxe and Deville. All 3 features classic fender clean chimmey sound and a high gain overdrive channel. They also have controls facing the top instead of the front of the amp(though i dun really like that idea) Read more here.

Thanks to Kenneth who sold me this amp. Now it's time to rock and roll! :D

Power lost...

Recently i'm pretty lost. I'm lost in the choice of a new amp. I'm lost in writting new music for RazzlePlay. I'm lost in all the web designing and stuff.

I recently blew my pc speaker while using a line6 toneport through it. I figured that i cannot get a nice tone at proper volume with the pethetic PC speaker. It's best sounding when it comes to late night in my room. At low volume, the KB37 rocks and no doubt about it. But when i need to crank all the juicy ideas out of my brain, this system just fails me. So upon blowing my PC speaker, i realized i need a proper amp. Right now, i've been amp searching for a few days. Current choice..

I'm lost in writting music for RazzlePlay. After my long fever, i cant seems to focus. I'm never like this.Recent attempts only resulted in lousy music that's not sincerce and not appealling. I really hope this period to go away fast and allow me to write songs everyone will like again!

I'm never good in web designing and recently it became worse as my system crashed and resulted in lost of applications that i'm used to. sickness strucked

Hours just before Bevlyn Khoo's concert, i felt the fever coming. Still, i decide to get my butt out to UCC and watch her show. The concert was great but i ended up very sick.

The concert featured many of her original compositions and i particularly like her "come play with me". I assure you it is definitely neither the title of the song nor the lyric, i'm never really about words when it comes to music. That particular arrangement just somehow creates impact.

My verdict is... i find bevlyn a very good vocal when it comes to her english songs but i do like her chinese hit "When i am 80". I fell in love with the violinist's technique! Simply amazing and mesmerizing! I find the pianist/bassist a little too showy, there is no need to be a bassist and then later a pianist every alternate song. It's distracting. Overall, i enjoyed the concert very much. :)

So after that concert, i fell into a super long fever. Why long? I got fever on 13/08 and only recovered on 18/08! I am not 100% well even right now. This sickness took away quite abit of time off me and removed my ability to think properly now. Somehow i cannot concentrate and write a song or even a tune out. Let's hope i can get around it fast and start doing what i should be doing! Time waits for no man! :)

About Me Part 2

I'm back! In my previous post, i was talking about how a few friends can form as a band. It's still kinda sad when such bands got to disband. Back then, it seems like end of the world!

So soon after i got my diploma, i entered the army. How soon? 2mth break and i'm in! I really did not expect to enter NS so soon.I was never related to army. Secondary school days, i was never involved in any ncc or npcc activities and my friends are all music related. Polytechnic pull the distance further! Anyway i entered, with loads of fear initially. The 2.5years of no time for guitar drastically removed my ability to play the guitar properly. There is always something to do during weekends and i was not allowed to bring guitar in camp. I had to struggle to get my skills back after army.

Right after army, the anxious greenhorn starts to look for job! It did not take me long to find Maestro Guitar my 2nd home. I was so excited as it allows me to learn loads of guitar repair and making skills. I worked in their workshop for 8mths and later was promoted to be a supervisor for the retail shop before becoming the manager of all Maestro Guitar's retail shop. The journey was often fun and educational. Everyday i learn something new.

Hi all!

i'm so happy to start a new blog with proper design and such! So with this, let's start by knowing about me. :)

I'm a 24yrs old male chinese. Born in a family that did not relate themselves with music. I took the 1st step when i was in primary school. I was in choir in primary school and that is because i was not allowed to join my favourite lion dance!

At first, choir came very sissy to me and i was reluctant to be with all the skirts. Soon i realized i love to be in the choir not because of skirts but the music and performing on stage.I also love playing the recorder and music test in school is never something difficult for me.So the stage turns addictive to me when my days pass in primary school. I did endless sketch and performance on stage. From drawing the decorations to rehearsing lines for certain roles, i always enjoy it and especially love the final part of being on stage. Even when it comes to comprehension, my stories are often marked as off topic as my imaginations just can't stay put in a particular plot.

So then came secondary school. I still remember the cca presentation day.That morning, I was amazed to see many new cca choices but non really catch my attention.So i went recess and when i reach back to the school hall, i was shocked. I saw instruments that i've only seen on television. Big bells, drums and metal recorders was going through my mind! Oh there's only a few instruments i could get the name right. eg. Saxophones and Drum set. The intensity went higher when the band starts to perform their songs! I could still clearly remember the songs. Lemon Tree, Mambo No.5 and Colors of the Wind. So i was all set for band and unknowingly, i finished 4 years of band live as a trombonist. Those were the days i don't even listen to any pop music on the radio and classic band music was all that my walkman would play! Rossroy, Proclamation and Symphonic Decreed, Singapura Suite, Liang Zu and such :D

Then, Polytechnic. Again, studies is not my main concern but music is! Haha. Somehow i was not able to join the Singapore Poly Band due to over whelming response. They did not hold any audition too. So anyway, mirc was still popular and i know a girl thru mirc. We were both looking for a club to join and she suggested joining the guitar club. Coincidentally, my aunt pass me her classical guitar and she wants me to fulfill her dream of playing the guitar. So i went joining the Guitar club and i fell in love with guitar. First song i completed was 情非得以 and it was because my senior David played it so well the first day i was in the club. Soon, electric guitar was introduced by some other seniors. Ruishen was one of them. Ruishen is now the guitarist of KingKongJane. Metallica, Mayday, Dir en grey were some of those top influence back then! Then after that Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert.
I ended up listening to instrumental rock most of the time and always mesmerized by the way the use the notes at that shear speed.

Along the way i formed a few bands. From english to jrock to chinese rock to chinese pop. Bands come and go as non of those were serious. Any few friends get together will become a band. It's especially easy when i am in the guitar club. It was so fun back then! I'm glad i have 讨闹派 RazzlePlay with me right now. I'm not sure if this will be for good but i definitely hope this is the final and greatest band i plays in. Check www.razzleplay.com :)
